Grown in Durham

Durham's Early Childhood Action Plan (ECAP)

Three children on a hill.

Grown in Durham

Every child in Durham deserves to thrive.

Our Mission

We create ways for children, families, and communities to come together, imagine, and bring to life the personal and systemic transformation that will support the well-being of young children and everyone in their lives.

Our Vision

Durham is a place where all young children and their families thrive. They experience joy, freedom, care, respect, and safety and grow up to witness the next generation experience young childhood in liberatory, just, and nurturing environments.

Our Values & Approach:

Those who are experiencing problems are also best able to find the solutions: young children, their families, and community-rooted leaders that serve them.

Equity and power-sharing can and must be intentionally pursued.

Children grow up in the context of their broader community of Durham and children will thrive when the adults in their lives also thrive and support each other in ways that honor our humanity.

Our Work

We invest in and support those who are closest to and most impacted by inequities and other human rights issues in Durham that affect families with young children.

Community-led research and solution-design

We create space for those with lived experience to define challenges and design solutions to those challenges.

Informing and Advising

We invite those who live in and/or impact Durham to learn about, contribute to, partner with and/or invest in solutions designed by those with lived experience.

Investing

We invest in solutions endorsed by those with lived experience.

Organizing and Policy Advocacy

We support people with lived experience in advocating for policy changes that remove barriers to people thriving.

Community Building

We bring people together to share their stories and perspectives, learn from each other, build relationships, and find ways to share and expand power.
